Christ-Centered Preaching

CHRIST-CENTERED PREACHING

Chapter 1: The Word & Witness

* When preachers perceive the power that the Word holds, confidence in their calling grows even as pride in their performance withers. (30)

Chapter 2: Obligation of the Sermon

* How many things is a sermon about? One!!!

* 2 things:
1. what is the passage talking about?
2. what is he saying about what he is talking about?

* FCF – The Fallen Condition Focus

- the earlier in the sermon, the more powerful and poignant
the message will be.

- Helping develop a FCF:
o What does the text say?
o What concern did the text address?
o What concern do today’s believers share in common?

Chapter 3: The Priority of the Text

* How does the text disclose the meaning or the need for redemption?

Chapter 4: Components of Exposition

* What people want & need = how does the Bible apply to my life?
- how does the truth affect our lives?
+ exhort the people to apply the truth b/c this in the intent of the
Word.

* Expounding the Word:
1. present the Word
2. explain what it says
3. exhort on what it means

• Explanation - prepare mind
• Illustration - prepare heart
• Application – prepare the will to obey God
